It looks pretty cool, they do the whole red carpet thing, and also have more interesting programming in which our film will screen. It feels very exotic and exciting to screen at one end of the Trans Siberian railway in Russia. First the Alaskans wanted us, now the Russians. I might brush up on the Cyrillic Alphabet, just in case. TR

Neil and I will both be heading down to the ACMI for Saturday’s screening. I had hoped to show the film on true HD – but it turns out that the cinema only has a digibeta player, which is okayish at best. We’ve only managed a proper HD screening once, and that was at the Cast and Crew in the Tom Mann theatre. It looked absolutely amazing, so I was getting very excited about seeing it in HD again. We will see if I can’t pull some strings on this one… I may just have to turn up with the right player in hand!

I invited a bunch of industry types, but it seems that Cannes provides a pretty big distraction! If the insiders aren’t over there, they are preoccupied with it here!

I am also hoping that the fruit shops of Melbourne’s CBD are closed for the day, because I don’t want any fruit available for the discussion after the film! We could just end up dodging some missiles from the audience. TR

We have had some poster designs done for us by a bloke who does a load of film art for posters and the like. He is incredibly busy, but has generously done these roughs for us to develop. The bloke in question is Jeremy Saunders, who has a great website and whose work you will no doubt have seen about the place.

I have posted the three designs here, but I reckon we’ll use the black and white one, because it’s really striking and is going to be the best for our limited production style…. i.e. it’s black and white (ish!). That way I can make it when I need to…

I like them all, so here they are in their glory… remember though, that these are only sketches! TR

The moment when Streetsweeper won Best Film (Jury Prize) at Anchorage International Film festival, USA 2008: I was in Alaska to accept the prize, the Golden Oosik–which is a beautiful trophy fashioned from a walrus penis bone, of course!–and somewhere between my chair & the stage I found this fetching hat. No wonder Festival Founder & Director Tony Shepherd is looking like he’s having second thoughts. Best film, worst hat: now everyone should take me seriously as a filmmaker.

No, I am not signing autographs or giving out my hotel room number, I am actually writing out a list of Australian films these smart young Alaskan filmmakers might like to watch: e.g. Summersault, The Caterpillar Wish & the Year My Voice Broke.
